Emilio’s Journey

Emilio, a British–Spanish actor from Hull, has grown into a confident, versatile, and deeply committed performer during his time with the Godber Theatre Foundation.

After studying at St Mary’s College in West Hull, he secured a place at the Academy of Live & Recorded Arts (ALRA) in Greater Manchester, where he joined the Foundation as part of its inaugural cohort. Throughout his training, the Foundation played a central role in his development—providing specialist workshops, one-to-one mentorship, a place in the 2021 Digital Showcase, and practical support including his professional headshots, Spotlight profile, and industry-standard equipment for self-taping.

Even while still in training, Emilio demonstrated remarkable initiative by creating and starring in his own short film, VAGRANTS (2020), marking the beginning of his on-screen storytelling work. Upon graduating, he signed with Shh! Talent and quickly began securing professional credits. His first role came in the summer of 2021, performing Duke Orsino and Feste in an outdoor production of Twelfth Night, directed by Luke Adamson. Soon after, he appeared in a short film for Smashing Mirrors Theatre focused on dementia awareness—now used as an educational resource across East Yorkshire—and later delighted audiences as “The Holiday Armadillo” in Comedy Central’s Friends Festive experience.

Emilio’s stage career accelerated rapidly. In 2023 he joined the cast of John Godber’s Do I Love You?, taking on the role of Kyle in a production that grew into a northern-born theatrical phenomenon, toured extensively, and received multiple five-star reviews. His work on the show continued through 2025 and earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the BroadwayWorld Awards.

Alongside this, Emilio took on one of his most significant roles to date: the titular character in John Godber’s historical play The Highwayman. As John Swift—the charismatic but troubled outlaw at the centre of the story—Emilio delivers a performance praised for its swagger, emotional depth, and sincerity. In 2025, Emilio was nominated again in the Broadway World Awards as Best lead actor in a play.

Through every stage of his journey—from student to award-nominated professional—the Godber Theatre Foundation has supported Emilio’s technical growth, artistic confidence, and entry into the industry. He now stands as a clear example of the Foundation’s mission in action: nurturing local talent, empowering emerging performers, and helping them thrive on both stage and screen.
