Beth’s Journey

Beth is from East Hull and went to Arch Bishop Sentamu Academy before gaining a place at the prestigious Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts where she studied Drama and Community Theatre practice graduating with a first class degree in May 2021.

While training at LIPA Beth organised and led a number of Community outreach programmes working with Southport Off-Key Choir, an older persons' choir, and Creative Youth Development, a youth service for young persons with disabilities, additional needs or who are not in education, employment or training.

In May 2021 Beth was employed by the John Godber Company as one of a trio of facilitators who created the outreach material which accompanied their adaption of Moby Dick. This included a resource pack for drama workshops for GCSE students and Year 5 and 6 pupils.

The Godber Theatre Foundation provided Beth with a brand new Apple iPad on graduating as well as a subscription to create her own facilitator website.

Alongside her studies Beth was one of six individuals in the UK to be accepted onto the VAULTS young directors programme, supported by Warner Media, at the Theatre Deli, London. At the conclusion of the course, Beth directed an extract from Enyu Li's Your Teenage Prayer at The Pleasance Theatre - her first directed piece of work in London's West End.

Reviews included: "the relationship on stage was well defined and directed with truth and complexity" (Josh Treacy, BBC Drama) and "the piece was very well directed" (Rebecca Jones, SLAM!).

Since graduating Beth has been employed by Absolutely Cultured in Hull, where her work predominately involves working on the ground in Gipsyville, delivering workshops with the community to help connect people.

The Godber Theatre Foundation continues to support Beth and we can’t wait to see what is next for her as she develops her career in the arts.
